A 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to conserving the natural resources of the Salem area for future generations- the water courses, swamps, meadows, and woodlands, the plant and animal life therein, as well as scenic, natural and historic sites; helping to preserve the area’s beauty, rural character and natural diversity.


   

Welcome.  This site is being developed to provide an introduction to the conservation efforts of Land Trusts.  In particular, the site will help show how the Salem Land Trust is helping preserve the natural areas and natural resources of Salem, CT.  This site will also provide information to individuals on ways they can permanently preserve their own land.

Butterfly Walk

Walden Preserve

Richard Chyinski will show hikers the amazing varieties of butterflies that live and migrate through the Walden Preserve.  These Butterfly Walks are very popular with children.  Rich has a technique that allows him to safely “catch” these delicate creatures; keep them in hand for the children (and adults!) to study, and then let them fly free unharmed.  Rain date-Sat. July 12.

Hike on the Darling Road Preserve (formerly the Litsky Property) -  Trail blazing begins this spring on this 100 acre parcel of forest in the middle of the Eightmile River Watershed.  This Preserve was purchased last year with help of many donors, including the residents of Salem, the Town of Salem, the Lyme and East Haddam Land Trusts, The Nature Conservancy, and the State of CT.  Frank and Dana Abetti will

 

A Walk on Mitchell Farm- Home of Mitchell Farm Equine Retirement. Mitchell Farm is surrounded on the west and north by the Eightmile River.  The hike will take you on a tour of the 200 year old barn, to “way out back” where the Eightmile River widens to cover many acres with beautiful wetlands which can only be seen from Mitchell and Marvel Farms.

In 1/2 mi. turn L onto Hagen Rd.
