Lyme Ambulance News And Updates

There's a New Ambulance In Town

Service Statistics for 2007

Outstanding Service Awards, 2007

Welcome to new crew members!

Amb

There’s a new ambulance in town! UA
Our new ambulance, built by American Emergency Vehicles (AEV), went into service in January 2007, after a review of several models.  The interior was custom built to address our specific needs.  This ambulance is a bit larger, and will allow us to carry all of the equipment necessary. The construction provides enhanced safety for patients and for the crew providing care.  The requirements of an Association like ours, located in a fairly rural town, are very different from those in a big city with hospital services just minutes away.

Service Statistics for 2007  UA

  • From January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007, Lyme Ambulance crews responded to 195 emergency calls.
    • 173 were in Lyme,
    • 21 were in East Haddam, and
    • one was in Old Lyme.
  • We responded to
    • 5 motor vehicle accidents, and
    • were at “stand by” status for the fire company 26 times.
  • Of our medical transports,
    • 60 were taken to the Shoreline Clinic,
    • 27 to L&M,
    • 23 to Middlesex Hospital, and
    • 9 to other medical centers.

Awards

Award Recipients Carter Courtney, EMT, Linda Bireley, EMT, Ron Rose, EMT and Peter Stelzner (not shown)

At our annual LAA recognition dinner in April, we presented Outstanding Service Awards to four veteran members and officers:  Ron Rose, EMT, Carter Courtney, EMT, Linda Bireley, EMT, and Peter Stelzner.   Ron Rose has served Lyme Ambulance for 21 years, and led the Operations Group as Crew Coordinator from 1997 to 2003.   Carter and Linda both have 19 years of service to LAA.  Carter has responded to over 70 calls annually in the last several years, in addition to overseeing driver training, vehicle maintenance, and spearheading our recent volunteer recruitment drive.  Linda served as Crew Coordinator from 1992-1994 and again from 2004-2005, and has made important administrative contributions to the service.  Peter is a 22 year veteran who’s served in various capacities as driver, medical response technician and EMT.  He was crew coordinator from 1987-1989 and 1993-1995 and just stepped down from a 6-year term as Vice President of the Association.

We also honored Doug Evans and Ken Plimpton for their longtime assistance to the ambulance service as Fire Police.

Welcome New Crew Members UA
We’re pleased to introduce our newest volunteers and most recently trained drivers:  Steve Olstein, Rich Monahan (who supervised the driver training for the new group), Carl Clement, and Robert Farrell.  Rich and Carl also completed training as Medical Response Technicians.  Ann Clement, standing beside Carl, is taking over the critical task of supply officer for the ambulances.  Not in the picture is Sherrie Block, our newest certified EMT.
