A 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to conserving the natural resources of the Salem area for future generations- the water courses, swamps, meadows, and woodlands, the plant and animal life therein, as well as scenic, natural and historic sites; helping to preserve the area’s beauty, rural character and natural diversity.
Welcome. This site is being developed to provide an introduction to the conservation efforts of Land Trusts. In particular, the site will help show how the Salem Land Trust is helping preserve the natural areas and natural resources of Salem, CT. This site will also provide information to individuals on ways they can permanently preserve their own land.

Please join David Bingham for the Annual SLT Spring Bird Count. The birds that nest in Salem will have returned and all Salem residents and friends are invited to come and enjoy a wonderful walk with nature at its most colorful. Zemko Pond Wildlife Management Area
T.J. Butcher will lead. In May, mornings in Salem are filled with of the concert of our native springtime warblers. Experienced birders often hear the warblers’ song and identify the species by ear, long before they catch a glimpse of the bird. This is a great way for beginners to start identifying birds. Zemko Pond (formerly the Moore Property) parking lot is located off Round Hill Rd. Rain date May 18.

Letterboxing, Sat., June 14, 10:00 am Walden Preserve Why don’t you and your family join Carol Giese & Linda Roberge for an introduction to “Letterboxing”? It’s a fun treasure hunt while you hike. New and different Letterboxes from last year will be “hunted!” Rain date-June 15. Please call 447-1242 for more information on Letterboxing.
Scavenger Hunt for Kids, Sunday June 22, 1:00-3:30 pm, Walden Preserve.
Walk the trails, solve the clues, and find the animals hiding in the meadows and woods of Walden Preserve. This is a self-guided clue-based scavenger hunt; SLT members will be there to assist. The hunt will include a short trail within the meadow for small children and a slightly longer trail for the more ambitious. Small prizes for successful “scavengers!”

Hike on the Darling Road Preserve (formerly the Litsky Property) - Trail blazing begins this spring on this 100 acre parcel of forest in the middle of the Eightmile River Watershed. A Walk on Mitchell Farm-
Home of Mitchell Farm Equine Retirement. Mitchell Farm is surrounded on the west and north by the Eightmile River. The hike will take you on a tour of the 200 year old barn, to “way out back” where the Eightmile River widens to cover many acres with beautiful wetlands which can only be seen from Mitchell and Marvel Farms.

From Salem 4-Corners, take Rt. 85 N.
In 1/2 mi. turn L onto Hagen Rd.
